Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam, Tennessee Department of Veterans Services Commissioner Many-Bears Grinder and Tennessee Military Department Major General Terry “Max” Haston will memorialize three Tennessee service members who gave the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the Armed Forces.
Private First Class Cecil E. Harris of Shelbyville was killed on January 2, 1945 while serving in World War II. His remains were not recovered until September 2013. PFC Harris was laid to rest on October 22, 2014.
Private First Class Lotchie Jones of Jasper went missing on or about November 2, 1950 while serving in the Korean War. He is believed to have died on February 28, 1951. PFC Jones was not identified until 2014 and he was laid to rest on March 6, 2015.
The Governor will also present the Gold Star Family Day Proclamation to Gold Star Family Members, Christie, Haley and Allison Greene as well as Karen and Rob Nourse. Specialist Frederick Z. Greene of Mountain City was killed during a shooting rampage at Fort Hood, Tex. on November 5, 2009.
The event will take place this Friday, at 9:30 a.m. CDT at the War Memorial Plaza, Nashville. In case of inclement weather, the event will be relocated to War Memorial Auditorium.
