The Lookout Mountain, Ga., City Council passed on first reading on Thursday night an ordinance permanently allowing golf carts on certain city streets.

This adopts the city’s current laws that have been in place the last two years.

The police department will continue to enforce the following laws in regards to the golf cart ordinance:
All golf carts are to be driven by only licensed drivers

Aall occupants must wear safety belts

All carts can only be operated during daylight hours.

Failure to follow any of these laws will be subject to citations and fines.
Three citations will result in the revocation of golf cart privileges.

Councilman David Bennett said that all golf carts have to be registered with the city by July. Failure to do so will result in fines.

Councilman Bennett also informed the council that he is going to have the police department increase patrol of speed and stop sign enforcement on certain streets like Hardy Road, Peter Pan Road and Fleetwood Drive.  Residents have voiced their concerns about certain areas of these roads where vehicles are not adhering to the traffic laws

City Manager Brad Haven advised the council that he has had pump 2 of the sewer system repaired and that the city begins the hydrogen peroxide treatment testing on the sewer system in June.

He also reported that street striping begins this summer on Cinderella Road, Fleetwood Drive, and Wood Nymph Trail.

Mr. Haven said he is working on zoning ordinances with Walker County and the state over the coming months.

The next regular scheduled meeting of the city council is Thursday, June 18, at 5:30 p.m.
