Ringgold Woman Killed In Foley, Ala., Wreck

A Ringgold woman died from injuries she sustained in a two-car wreck at Foley, Ala., on Friday night, and several others from Chattanooga were injured.

The victim was Sharen Mueller Shields, 56, a TVA employee for the last 35 years serving in the purchasing and transportation departments.

The accident happened on U.S. 98 outside the grounds of a hot air balloon festival.

Police charged Rogelio Moreno-Salazar with manslaughter and DUI.

Police said, in the wreck just after 9 p.m., he drove an SUV into the back of a Volkswagen sedan occupied by the Chattanooga group. Both vehicles, which were traveling east, slid about 30 feet and came to rest at the side of the road, according to AL.com.

Three of the four people in the VW were injured, including Ms. Shields, who was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital. She later died.

Ms. Shields was a member of Grace Church in Ringgold. She was employed by TVA for the last 35 years serving in the purchasing and transportation departments.

Survivors include her husband of 35 years, Mike Shields; sons, Matthew and William “Will” Shields; grandsons, Cash and Stanford “Ford” Shields; father, Bill Mueller; twin sister and brother-in-law, Karen Mueller Sims and Lee Sims, and sister, Kim Mueller.

A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday at Grace Church in Ringgold with Rev. Steve Sullivan officiating.

Arrangements are by Heritage Funeral Home & Crematory, Battlefield Parkway.
