Dustin Hayes
Criminal Court Judge Barry Steelman on Thursday lowered the bond from $700,000 to $5,000 for a man charged in the July 2012 murder of Steve Mosley on North Hickory Street.
The judge noted that Dustin Hayes had been in jail for over three years. He said his sentencing range was 3-6 years on an earlier guilty plea to solicitation to commit robbery, and he said that even if he had gotten six years that he would be eligible for parole by now.
Hayes testified for the state against Ronald Cosper, who was convicted of first-degree murder and given a life sentence.
Hayes was directed to remain at home with his parents until a sentencing hearing on June 29.
Devante Stoudemire pleaded guilty on Wednesday to second-degree murder and was given a 15-year sentence.
According to testimony, Hayes drove the other two to near the Mosley residence, and Cosper went to carry out the robbery while Stoudemire waited near the car.
Mosley was shot three times when he tried to resist.
