William Coker, 21, Dies From Injuries In Lake Chickamauga Boating Accident; Logan Nichelson, 21, Charged With BUI

The man critically injured in Saturday’s boating incident on Chickamauga Lake has died.

Investigators said William Coker, 21, from Collierville, Tn., died from the injuries sustained in the incident involving two personal watercrafts. Mr. Coker died at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga at 12:30 a.m. on Sunday.

According to investigators, the incident occurred just before 7 p.m. on Chickamauga Lake near Island Cove Marina. Mr. Coker’s personal watercraft collided with another ridden by Logan James Nichelson, 21, from Brentwood, Tn. Mr. Nichelson was also carrying a passenger, Andrew Kirsch, 21, from Old Hickory, Tn. Mr. Nichelson and Mr. Kirsch sustained no injuries.

Nichelson was charged with boating under the influence. The incident is under investigation by TWRA Wildlife Officers.

A TWRA officer said when he arrived that the victim was being treated by EMS and the other two individuals were on the dock.

The officer said he noticed a strong odor of alcohol on Nichelson's breath.

Nichelson said he had consumed 4-5 beers.

He was taken to Memorial Hospital for a blood draw to check his alcohol level prior to being booked at the county jail.

Nichelson made a $2,000 bond.
