Times Free Press Circulation District Manager Says He Was Fired Due To His Age

  • Thursday, June 25, 2015

A former district manager in the circulation department at the Chattanooga Times Free Press said he was fired because of his age.

Leonard J. Helton is asking $750,000 in compensatory damages in a Chancery Court lawsuit against the Chattanooga Publishing Company, parent company of the newspaper.

The suit, filed by attorneys Harry Burnette and Frank Pinchak, says Mr. Helton was 66 when he was terminated.

It says he was replaced "by a considerably younger person."

The suit says the firing came on June 11, 2014, "with no prior warning."

It says Mr. Helton had performed his duties well and been told that his performance was good.

The complaint says the firing was "consistent with a practice of eliminating older employees."
