Camp Jordan Jams Rescheduled For Aug. 1

Includes Barbecue Cook-Off, Fireworks, Cruise-In, Beaters And Common Ground

The city of East Ridge has postponed the scheduled Camp Jordan Jams on Friday and rescheduled for Aug 1, due to the possibility of inclement weather.

Parks and Recreation Director Stump Martin said there was too much of an investment made in the summer version of the Camp Jordan Jams to take a chance.

“Interim City Manager Mike Williams and I decided this is what’s best for our city and this event,” Mr. Martin said.  “The date is the only thing changing with the festivities planned. We will still have the Backyard Barbecue Cook-Off, the Karaoke Contest, with the winner taking home $1,000, Common Ground, The Beaters, a Cruise-In and a super fireworks show to end the evening. It’s still free and the only cost should be whatever good food you eat. It’s a party.”

Mr. Martin said he still believes the people of East Ridge and the surrounding areas will join together for a super summer celebration.

"We have our one-of-a-kind game time playground that’s now open and we will have an obstacle course and slide inflatable's for the kids,” Mr. Martin said. “I believe changing the date will also bring out more of the amateur chefs for the Backyard Barbecue Cook-off contest.  There is no charge to enter for set up or entry and the contestants are allowed to sell their meats.”

East Ridge Optimist Club President Harry Mackey, who is a chef, is organizing the Backyard Barbecue Cook-off.

Mr. Mackey said judging will be in three categories, Pork Shoulder, Ribs and Chicken. He added that three places will be awarded in each category with judging starting at 3:30 p.m. and awards at 6 p.m. Cook-off contestants may set up the night before the event.

The $1,000 karaoke contest, sponsored by David Gysin and Superior Creek Lodge, has 25 entrants and room for 15 more, according to Mr. Gysin.

The karaoke contest is scheduled from 3-6 p.m., Common Ground takes the stage from 6:30-7:30, the Beaters headline from 8-10 p.m. and a fireworks display will decorate the sky at 10 p.m.
