Doston W. "Pete" Miller, died on Friday, July 24, 2015 after a battle with lung cancer.

He loved the Lord and was of the Lutheran faith. Born in New Market, Va., on June 23, 1925, he lived in the Shenandoah Valley until moving his family to Northern Virginia in the late 1940s where he worked as a brick mason and home builder. After retirement, Pete and his wife Pauline moved to Chattanooga in 1994 where they remained until their passing. Corporal DW Miller served in the Pacific during World War II in the Philippine Islands, Okinawa, Guam, Guadalcanal, and China. Understandably, he did not talk about his experiences during the war until very late in life. What our veterans go through to keep our country safe, no one should have to endure. Pete’s family wishes to express their gratitude to their father and all our war veterans for their service to our country. Pete loved the outdoors, bow hunting, and archery. Being avid travelers, Pete and Pauline traveled to every state in the union as many times as they could and to both Canada and Mexico. They drove the Alaska Highway three times and loved seeing God’s creation first hand. When he wasn’t traveling, Pete worked in his wood working shop building exceptional handcrafted furniture and cabinetry. Not being one to sit around, he was always in the shop or working in the yard. He will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline; parents, Samuel and Lilly; brother, Lee; sister, Delma.

Survivors include his daughters, Linda (Nathaniel) Barbour and Cathy (Donald) Popovich; granddaughter Audra Barbour; grandson, Ryan (Wendy) Delsignore; great grandchildren, Madison, Bryce, and Caleb DelSignore.

Graveside service with Military Honors will be held on Tuesday, July 28, at 10 a.m. at the Chattanooga National Cemetery. Interment will follow.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
