Knight Promoted At Chattanooga’s NetGain Technologies

  • Thursday, July 9, 2015

Jay Knight has spent 25 years delivering IT solutions to companies in the extended Chattanooga area—the X that runs from Birmingham to Knoxville and Nashville to Atlanta, with the Scenic City at its center. During that quarter-century, Knight figures that he has met local business leaders in the boardrooms of almost every office building in the Chattanooga environs.

As a young man in the burgeoning information technology field, Mr.

Knight worked his way up from certified network engineer to C-level executive in a couple of area companies. Since 2009, he has helped to build the local presence of NetGain Technologies, a regional managed services provider (MSP).

For the past two years, Mr. Knight has focused his efforts on the company’s core strength: providing managed IT services to small and midsize businesses. Since Chattanooga started offering managed IT services in 2013, Mr. Knight has elevated his office to the second-highest of NetGain’s seven branch offices in revenue from that segment of IT offerings. “We’ve transitioned this office into a managed services-focused branch,“ Mr. Knight said. He cites the company motto as his driving force: “’Creating happy clients through effective managed service solutions.’ It’s what made us profitable—we have the services that local business leaders are demanding, and we’re able to deliver them in a way that makes the client happy.”

The success of his hard work recently earned Mr. Knight an expanded role with the MSP, where he will now serve as President of Sales for the Southeast Region. In his new role, Mr. Knight will continue to oversee the Chattanooga office and will be responsible for building on the momentum that he has generated. His new challenge will be to duplicate his success in the Birmingham market, where he will oversee another NetGain Technologies branch office.

Jason Jacobson, a partner in the family-owned NetGain Technologies and Mr. Knight’s boss, notes that Mr. Knight will be responsible for establishing sales targets to meet company objectives. He also will be responsible for developing company goals that will promote sales, growth, and customer satisfaction for the organization.

A new priority for the regional president of sales is to work with the existing staff at NetGain’s Birmingham office. “They’re already a team. I’m just going to help them bring a managed services focus to the office.” He thinks the primary distinction for NetGain Technologies is the relationships the company builds with its clients, and he wants to foster that aspect in Birmingham. “What I’ve found in the Chattanooga market is that our clients like to feel that they’re a part of a family, and I want to bring that atmosphere to Birmingham. We’re extremely excited about helping them grow.”

Managed IT services is a business practice that has grown in prominence during the past decade. Companies offload all or part of their information technology burden by contracting an IT specialist with vast resources to administer their networks. Managed services generally encompasses both onsite support and remote helpdesk support, 24-by-7 monitoring and maintenance, and a hybrid virtual CIO (VCIO) functionality.

Mr. Knight says a good MSP will help clients to analyze their current IT infrastructure and investment. Then, it is possible to determine if changes would help companies to meet their profitability goals and objectives. “I try to key on a simple message: An increased efficiency will save you money that you can invest elsewhere—freeing up capital that will be put to better use on your core business.”

Mr. Jacobson is confident that Mr. Knight is the right man to lead NetGain Technologies to increased success in the southeast region. “Jay has a great work ethic. Our clients put their trust in him. But he’s also personable and funny and he represents the company.” Mr. Jacobson respects Mr. Knight’s commitment. “His loyalty to our company and family is unmatched. He lives out his values in work every day—this is in alignment with how we run our company.”
