Superintendent Rick Smith said the county schools had an increase of 232 students on the first day of school when compared to first day last year.
Enrollment was at 40,403 compared to 40,171 last year.
It tops the 40,355 numbers on the first day of 2012/2013.
The elementary enrollment was up 277 students.
The middle schools had 73 fewer students.
The high schools were up 28.
The new East Brainerd Elementary School opened with 872 students - up 238 over last year.
Ooltewah Elementary gained 90 students to go to 905, Wolftever gained 93 and Spring Creek was up 69.
Apison was down by 91 students and Battle Academy dropped by 59 students. Westview enrollment dropped by 60.
Orchard Knob Middle lost 62 students and Tyner Middle dropped 66.
Tyner Academy is down 152 students to an enrollment of 480. Ooltewah High was down 137 and East Hamilton dropped 60.
Howard increased 79 students to 509. Howard's ninth grade includes 95 black students, two white and 90 Hispanic.
