An investigation by special agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and deputies with the White County Sheriff’s Department has resulted in the indictment of a Spencer man charged with reckless homicide in the death of his wife.

At the request of 13th District Attorney General Bryant Dunaway, TBI special agents joined investigators with the White County Sheriff’s Department and the DA’s office in investigating the death of Jerrica Simmons on March 11. Law enforcement officials were notified that an injured female was brought to a local emergency room by her husband, Joshua Brandon Simmons.

During the course of the investigation, agents learned that Simmons reported his wife jumped out of the passenger door of his truck while he was driving, and was run over by the back tire. Ms. Simmons, 23, later died from her injuries. Evidence obtained from the investigation was presented to the White County Grand Jury.

On Monday, the White County Grand Jury returned an indictment charging Simmons, 34.

Simmons was arrested on Monday at his home in Spencer and was booked into the White County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
