District 3 County Commissioner Marty Haynes announced his candidacy for the countywide run for Hamilton County assessor of property on Monday evening in Hixson among a large group of supporters.

"Serving the public is a tremendous honor and one that I take seriously," Commissioner Haynes noted.  "Earning the trust of voters to serve as the assessor of property is the focus of my campaign.  Hamilton County citizens deserve and expect proven stewardship and accountability in their government."

Current Assessor of Property Bill Bennett announced his retirement after leading the office since 1994. The office sets the appraised value of all land in Hamilton County.

The term of service is elected on a four-year cycle with the next county primary election set for March 1 and the county general election on Aug. 4.

Commissioner Haynes has served as District 3 county commissioner since 2012, after winning a special election to fill the seat.  He was unopposed in his re-election bid in 2014.  Commissioner Haynes represents the Hixson community both within the city of Chattanooga and the unincorporated rural area, including Middle Valley, Dallas Bay and town of Lakesite. Commissioner Haynes has been chairman of the Commission's Roads and Zoning Committee and serves on the Legal and Human Services Committees.

"Working to bring accountability, transparency and efficiency to county government has served as the foundation for each vote I've cast since every tax-dollar spent was earned by the hands of hard-working citizens," continued Commissioner Haynes. "Hamilton County residents and business owners deserve the best government that honors their values and principles."

Commissioner Haynes is employed at Porter Warner Industries as a technical sales representative.  PWI, based in Chattanooga, is the largest foundry supply house in North America.  He is also a licensed real estate agent with the Huddleston Group.  Commissioner Haynes serves as a campus director for Stuart Heights Baptist Church and is a board member for both the Hixson Kiwanis Club and the Friends of Hixson.
