Police said a Chattanooga man beat up a man he caught with his girl friend, then he later tried to blow up her clothes with a cocktail bomb.

Prandell Antonio Haynes, 25, of 413 Friar Road, is charged with aggravated arson, aggravated assault and possession of an explosive device.

Shyree Green said she got into a disorder with Haynes over another male friend of hers. She said he "caught the other guy over at her house a couple of days ago and beat him up."

She said Haynes later returned - she thought to pick up his belongings. But she said he began to argue and he took her clothes and those of her child and put them in a pile in the backyard.

She said he then took a half-filled vodka bottle and stuck a rag in it. He tried to light it while standing in the kitchen.

A bomb technician was called to the scene on Orchard Knob Avenue and removed the cocktail bomb.
