It's that time of year again. Atlanta’s two-day music festival located in Midtown’s Piedmont Park kicked off Friday afternoon with a total of 12 bands on four stages.
Irish rockers Kodaline opened up the evening for the Electric Ballroom Stage, which would later be the closing stage for headliner Drake. Fellow Irishman Hozier played the middle billing on that stage and brought in a large crowd. His radio hit “Take Me to Church” had the masses singing along. Hozier and his band also broke out a few covers, The Beatles’ “Blackbird” and “Problem” by Ariana Grande, each with their own unique take and style.
The Honda Stage’s first performer of Music Midtown 2015 was August Alsina. The rapper came to ATL complete with a band, DJ, and scantily clad backup dancers. With that and some very explicit lyrics, his show wasn’t exactly kid friendly. Alice In Chains closed out the night on the Honda Stage with a definite change in genre. The rockers took the stage, jammed out flawlessly, and put on a solid performance. The band’s rock hits such “Man in the Box” and “Rooster” were specifically nostalgic of the 90s grunge scene that gave them their start.
The Belk Stage served as the other main stage, ending the night with Elton John. Elton played a two-hour set, while Drake performed on the other side of the park. Both acts had the crowds packed in tight. In fact, the sea of spectators seemed to go on forever.
The diversity in acts proved to be a good mix to cater to everyone’s musical tastes.
