Russell Fowler speaks about the Magna Carta to Judge David Campbell Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution

The Judge David Campbell Chapter of the DAR met at the Holiday Inn on Shallowford Road for the first meeting of the DAR year.  Regent Susan Lindsey welcomed the 40-plus members and guests. Guest speaker was Russell Fowler, attorney, professor and author of over 40 publications on law and legal history. He presented the Chapter with a talk about the 800 year-old Magna Carta and the influence it has on the western legal system and especially its impact on the U.S. Constitution.

Of the various topics presented at the meeting, one of primary importance is the 125th Anniversary of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. President General Lynn Young has called on local chapters to join in a National Day of Service on Sunday, Oct. 11, the anniversary of the Society’s chartering by the United States Congress in 1890.  The Judge David Campbell Chapter will be joining with other area chapters to host a collection drive for Operation Santa. The collection will take place at the Veteran’s Park in Soddy-Daisy from 2-5 p.m.

They will welcome new items from the community that are suitable for Christmas distribution to families in Hamilton County that do not qualify for other gift-oriented charities at holiday time.  Items for donation include new toys or gifts suitable for children of all ages, socks for infant through adult, blankets, coats, and items to be used for individuals who would not receive anything during the holidays.
