  • Wednesday, September 9, 2015

The Chattanooga Choo-Choo is planning to add up to 400 residential units at its 21.6-acre site on South Market Street.

Officials said it will include multi-story buildings (2-8 stories).

There will also be a mix of residential, hotel, entertainment, and similar uses.

The Choo Choo currently is converting a former hotel building at the rear of the old railroad station  into 97 apartment units.

A number of entertainment venues are also being developed at the Choo Choo, including one called Revelry.

The Comedy Catch is moving from Brainerd Road to the Choo Choo.

The popular Track 29 venue is moving from a former ice skating rink at the back of the Choo Choo property to the former Centennial Theater onsite.

A request for rezoning will come before the Planning Commission on Monday at 1 p.m. at the County Courthouse.

The applicant is Choo Choo Partners and Jon Kinsey, former Chattanooga mayor.

The Planning Commission staff said the height limit is five stories.

Access would be by South Market Street and Passenger Street.
