The County School Board has set a special called meeting on Tuesday with the future of Supt. Rick Smith expected to be one of the topics.

Board member Greg Martin said,  "I think the community has made it pretty clear that they've lost confidence in the system and I think there needs to be change."

At the session, District Attorney Neal Pinkston is expected to give the board members an update on what his investigation of the situation has turned up.

The special called session will be a closed-door meeting between the board and its attorney, Scott Bennett.

It will be at 5:30 p.m. in the Board Room at 3074 Hickory Valley Road.

The purpose of this session is "to adjourn into executive session to hear from the attorneys regarding matters needing the attention of the board."

Supt. Smith last July was given a two-year extension on his contract. He already had two years remaining on the prior contract.

A buyout would be expensive considering the number of years remaining on the contract.
