GCAR Names Kathy Tucker As 2015 George Kangles Community Citizenship Award Winner

  • Monday, January 18, 2016

The new year began with a night of celebration for the Greater Chattanooga Association of Realtors (GCAR) as the group welcomed a fresh leadership team and recognized one deserving local realtor with the association’s prized George Kangles Community Citizenship Award. Established in 2011, the award honors a member of the realty community who demonstrates a proven track record of active political involvement and positive impact on governmental affairs directly affecting Chattanooga Realtors, homebuyers and sellers.

This year’s recipient, Kathy Tucker, has served as a member of the GCAR board of directors and the Multiple Listing Service board of directors for the past 11 years, including two terms as president of each association. She is an active member of the National Association of Realtors’ board of directors, in addition to the former division vice president and board member of the Tennessee Association of Realtors. A committed investor in the Realtors Political Action Committee (RPAC), Ms. Tucker’s contribution toward the prosperity of Chattanooga’s realty community and its accompanying political climate is unquestionable.

“Kathy’s voice is one that is heard and heeded in the realty community,” said Randy Durham, the 2013 winner of the George Kangles Award who chaired this year’s nomination committee. “She understands firsthand how vital it is for Realtors to weigh in on governmental issues and make the community’s needs known. Whether she is discussing mortgage lending to Senator Corker or mentoring young Realtors, her legacy here is one of incredible, lasting service.”

Created in honor of the late George Kangles—a prominent and highly-revered Association member with a career steeped in civic engagement— Ms. Tucker is the third award recipient, following Randy Durham in 2013 and Lois Killebrew in 2012.

“To be able to follow in George Kangles’ footsteps and give back in a way that supports fellow Realtors, homebuyers, builders and more is rewarding on such a deep level,” said Ms. Tucker. “I’m so grateful and I hope to measure up to George’s legacy of service. This is more than an award—it’s a passing down of the torch.”
