Charles Allen Bailey, 66 of Rock Spring, Georgia, and formerly of Dutton, Al., died on Saturday, October 1, 2016.

He was a lifelong resident of the North Georgia area and attended The Gathering. He was a Sergeant First Class in the United States Army having served during the Vietnam Era and also in Kuwait during Desert Storm and retired from the United States Postal Service in 2003 after more than 30 years of service as a postmaster. Charles loved Alabama Football “Roll Tide” and enjoyed gardening and raising chickens. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather that will be truly missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Gwendola Black Bailey.

Survivors include his wife, Tammy Swanson Bailey of Rock Spring; father, C.R. Bailey of Chattanooga; sons and daughters-in-law, Bernd and Nikki Bailey, Mark and Laurie Bailey all of Lookout Mountain, and Caleb Bailey of Rock Spring; previous wife of more than 32 years, Gabi Bailey, of Lookout Mountain; three brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Terry Bailey, Bruce and Beth Bailey and Steve and Crystal Bailey; seven sisters and brothers-in-law, Virginia Harris, Marilyn Goolesby, Sharon and Mark Atwell, Charlene and David Patty, Denise and Marty Stewart, Beverly and Robert Cooper and Sherry and Phil Lowe; four grandchildren, Chandler Bailey, Brayden Bailey, John Wesley Bailey and Dawson Bailey; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 5, in the Fort Oglethorpe Chapel with Brother Jeff Daniels officiating.

Burial will follow in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends after 4 p.m. Tuesday and prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
