Former UTC Basketball-Tennis Coach Tommy Bartlett Dies at Age 88

Former University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's basketball and tennis coach Tommy Bartlett died Wednesday at his home, He was 88.

A member of 11 halls of fame including the Tennessee State HOF and the Southern Tennis Assoc. HOF, Bartlett also served as the manager and head pro at Manker Patten from 1979 to 1996.

He led the UTC women's tennis team to three straight NCAA D-II national titles (1983-84-85) and, guided the men's and women's teams to a combined 13 Southern Conference titles.

He was head basketball coach at Carson-Newman, UTC and Florida with a combined record of 168-130.

On the tennis court, he won more than 60 state singles and doubles titles and 50 Southern championship.

Funeral arrangements:

Monday Oct. 24 Noon at First Baptist Church in Chattanooga

Visitation: 10:30 a.m. - noon prior to the service at First Baptist Church
