Students Forgo Fall Break To Pursue Academic Enrichment

While the majority of Hamilton County students are partaking in a little rest and relaxation during their Fall Break next week, 20 students are spending the first two days of their fall break at the Inaugural Leadership and Law Academy. This academy, hosted by Chattanooga Legal Diversity Consortium, will be held on October 10 and 11 from 8 am – 4 pm

Through lectures from local attorneys, field trips to the courthouse and law firms, guest speakers and discussion on college prep, minority high school students will learn about and see firsthand about the path of becoming lawyer, the study of law, and the various ways lawyers work throughout the community. The Academy will take place atthe University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and will feature sessions at a private law firm, the Hamilton County Courthouse, and City Hall.  The keynote speaker of the Academy will be Judge Curtis Collier, U.S. District Court Judge for the Eastern District of Tennessee.

The sponsors of the Leadership and Law Academy are Husch Blackwell and the City of Chattanooga. The coordinators of the event include The City of Chattanooga, Husch Blackwell, Baker Donelson, Chambliss Bahner, the Chattanooga Bar Association and members of the Chattanooga Legal Diversity Consortium.
