Students Safe After Staff Clears Gas Leak At Beaverdale Elementary In Whitfield County

  • Monday, November 28, 2016
Students are back in class after smelling gas inside Beaverdale Elementary early Monday morning.

Administrators arrived at the school after Thanksgiving break to the smell of gas in the building.

Shortly after arriving at the school, students boarded buses staged on the edge of campus to stay warm while school maintenance personnel and the Whitfield County Fire Department investigated the odor.

Assistant Principal Darlene Cartwright's first report said the smell was strongest near the cafeteria and diminished as she moved out into the rest of the building.

A propane tank refilled recently was empty Monday morning.
Workers identified and began working to correct the problem. After checking air quality to ensure students would be safe inside, they resumed class as usual.
