Greg Beck is sworn in by Bill Knowles
County Commissioner Greg Beck was chosen vice chairman of the commission in a revote on Wednesday.
Earlier, when the commission was down to eight members due to a District 3 representative not yet in place, there was a 4-4 tie between Commissioner Beck and Randy Fairbanks.
As a result of the tie, Commissioner Fairbanks stayed in place as vice chairman.
Greg Martin, the newly named District 3 commissioner, opted for Commissioner Beck, who also got votes from himself, Warren Mackey, Jim Fields and Joe Graham.
In favor of Vice Chairman Fairbanks were himself, Chairman Chester Bankston and Sabrena Smedley.
Tim Boyd was absent.
At the meeting on Wednesday, Chairman Bankston closed the adjourned session. Commissioner Beck then said he had not been given time to ask for a revote.
Chairman Bankston said it was too late. Then Commissioner Mackey asked for a vote on reopening the session. That passed.
At one point in the meeting, Commissioner Beck said he was pulling his name out of consideration. Later, he decided to stay in the race.
After the vote, he was sworn into office by County Clerk Bill Knowles.
