Henrietta Bakowski Phillips
Henrietta Bakowski Phillips “Aunt Hank”, 89, former longtime resident of Soddy Daisy, died on Thursday, December 1, 2016.
She worked for the Illinois Central Railroad for six years, was a cashier at Kroger’s and worked at the Oster Plant in Dayton for many years. Family was of the upmost importance to her and she was a true inspiration to all who knew her. Her courage and endurance during life was of great value to everyone. Other than her dear, beloved late husband, Luther “Bud” Phillips and her constant companion Sugar Dog, she was closest to Lisa DeBlois Barnes, who she considered her daughter. Lisa reflects that Aunt Hank was a continual influence and a true blessing to the person she is today. She taught Lisa to embrace her own strengths as she was very strong, loyal and kind person. Mrs. Phillips was a very independent person who was very crafty and an avid animal lover.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Katherine Bakowski and siblings, Lillian Picklehaupt, Sylvia Guyton, Beatrice Bialas and Joseph Bakowski.
Survivors include her daughter by choice, Lisa Barnes and her husband Jeffery; sister, Doris Sarbiewski; 10 nephews, three nieces and several great nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Carl Hunsucker officiating. Burial will follow at Buttram Cemetery in Dayton, Tn.
Visitation is on Monday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
