Incoming Walker County Sole Commissioner Shannon Whitfield said under his administration there will no longer be a full-time county attorney.
"We will outsource this service on a fee basis," he said.
Mr. Whitfield said he has begun interviewing attorneys who might be able to help out the county from time to time.
Don Oliver has long been the county attorney for Walker County and a major player in county policy.
He has had a leading role in the issue over millions of dollars owed to Erlanger Health System by the county related to Erlanger's operation of Hutcheson Hospital in Fort Oglethorpe.
Mr. Oliver has also been involved in an effort to convert sections of the old rail line going between Chickamauga, Ga., and the Durham community on Lookout Mountain to a public walking trail.
Mr. Whitfield said one new full-time employee on his staff will be in charge of communications and public relations.
That is a position not in the Bebe Heiskell administration.
Mr. Whitfield said it will also be his responsibility to hire an auditing firm.
He also will need to find a replacement for Randy Camp, former Walker County fire chief who recently shifted to Catoosa County.
