Another major fundraiser is in the works for District 3 City Councilman Ken Smith, who is considered a potential candidate for mayor in next year's election.

Asked if he plans to run for mayor, Councilman Smith said, "For the past three years, I have enjoyed serving the people of District 3 and others across the city of Chattanooga.  I am also honored that so many business and community leaders are showing their support of my efforts on City Council.

"As of now, I am focused on talking with people throughout our community about why I want to continue serving our city."

The event is being hosted on Friday, Feb. 26, at the home of Jabo and Beaumont Covert on Quiet Pond Drive in Chattanooga. Jabo Covert is senior vice president for government affairs of Jones Management/Check Into Cash.

Also set to be hosts for the event are Check Into Cash founder Allan Jones and his wife, Janie.

Other hosts include John "Thunder" Thornton, Tom Decosimo and Mitch Patel.

Those set to attend include Congressman Chuck Fleischmann and House Majority Leader Gerald McCormick.

The host committee includes Lynn and John Anderson, Sherri and Daniel Anderson, Emily and Michael Baskette, Sharon and Sam Braden, Charlotte and Clay Dennis, Dr. Jason and Lauren Eck, Becky and Dereck English, Julie and Jim Floyd, Harry Hawkins, Sara and John Kerns, Kelly and Darrin Ledford, Johnnie and David Queen, Emerson Russell, Kinah and Tony Sanders, Steve Sanders, Mike St. Charles, Albert Waterhouse and the Tennessee Valley Water Alliance.

Suggested contribution is $100 per couple.

Councilman Smith won the District 3 seat in 2013, defeating incumbent Pam Ladd.
