A Catoosa County deputy was shot Sunday evening while serving felony warrants on an individual.
He was shot in the hand when there was a struggle over a gun the person had on him.
He was hospitalized for treatment of a wound to a finger.
James Sherlin, 29, has been charged with attempted murder.
The incident was at 1198 Edgemond Circle in Ringgold.
The warrants for Sherlin's arrest included aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Deputies got a tip that Sherlin was at the residence.
When deputies arrived, they were advised that Sherlin was in the shower. He then opened the door and spotted the deputies. Deputies forced open the bathroom door, while Sherlin went into the shower where he had a handgun.
Sheriff Gary Sisk saids Deputy Keith Cantrell and Sherlin began to struggle for control of the gun in the shower.
Deputy John Wallin used his Taser on Sherlin, but the struggle continued.
Sheriff Sisk said Sherlin then fired the gun, and a bullet struck Deputy Cantrell on his left ring finger. Sherlin was hit in the arm by the same bullet.
Deputies said Sherlin continued to kick while he was being handcuffed.
Sherlin was taken to Erlanger Hospital, where he was treated and released.
