Use Caution On Hiring An Interim Superintendent With No Background In School Administration

  • Friday, March 4, 2016
What is school board chairman Jonathan Welch doing? He's appears to be leaning toward recommending an interim school superintendent who doesn't even have any school administration knowledge or experience? And all of this before the board has even finalized a buyout with Rick Smith and had a chance to hold public deliberations on qualified applicants?

I'm sure he would balk at the idea of my opening a full service dentistry office in my garage. He would no doubt point to state laws and penalties for such behavior.

Board members at our area banks would not even consider hiring a president that didn't have some financial experience.
Having a bank account wouldn't be sufficient. And just having attended school doesn't automatically make one qualified to be a superintendent.
