A house was destroyed by fire on Mowbray Mountain early Wednesday morning.

Fire officials said no one was in the house as far as they could determine. The house had been vacant.

At 2:40 a.m., a motorist called 911 reporting a house fire around the Grant Road and Welch Road area. The Mowbray Volunteer Fire Department responded and in search of the accurate address of the fire. Within a few minutes, fire officials confirmed the correct address as 10716 Grant Road.

They reported the house was involved with structure collapse. The Sequoyah Volunteer Fire Department responded to the to assist the Mowbray Volunteer  Fire Department.

According to fire officials, the house was under new ownership this past week and the new owner had been renovating the house. The house is a total loss, and the fire will be under investigation by the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.
