Painting for a Purpose, the monthly adult painting party offered at the 6th Cavalry Museum, is April 28 from 6–8 p.m.  Coyee Shipp Langston, local artist and instructor selected “Happy Tree” to welcome spring and let the guests’ light-heartedness come through with bright acrylic colors and fun whimsical swirls, she said.

“Painting is a lot of fun and good therapy after a busy week," said Ms. Langston.  "We’ve had couples call this their date night and friends who paint together instead of dinner and a movie.”

Ms. Langston has taught art lessons to adults and children for over 30 years. Her love for the arts began as a child of artistic parents and continues today. She began her art career when she opened an art supply and framing studio in East Ridge. Ms. Langston became involved with several art organizations and began a lifetime of supporting the arts. Today she is a member/artist in two prominent Chattanooga galleries, In-Town Gallery and Area 61.

A $40 donation includes a catered dinner, all painting supplies; 16” x 20” canvas, paints, brushes, easel and instruction.  Participants are encouraged to bring an apron or old shirt to protect their clothes and their favorite beverage.  Ms. Langston’s instructions will demonstrate painting techniques, show how to mix colors and give personal attention so each guest finishes their painting that night.

Proceeds from Painting for a Purpose benefits the 6th Cavalry Museum.  The 6th Cavalry Museum is a non-profit museum, founded in 1981.  “Everytime we bring new people into the museum we have the opportunity to show off the displays and all the community events that are happening here,” explained museum director Chris McKeever.  “Painting for a Purpose benefits the museum in so many ways.”

Pre-registration is required and class size is limited to 20 participants.  Online registration is available at www.6thcavalrymuseum.com.  For more information or questions call 706.861-2860 or chris@6thcavalrymuseum.com.
