The United Daughters of the Confederacy, Jefferson Davis Chapter # 900 held its March meeting at the Kinser Church of God in Cleveland.

President Marilyn Kinne called the meeting to order.  The ritual was led by Helen Riden, chaplain.  The salute to the Christian Flag, pledge to the U.S. flag, salute to the Tennessee flag, and salute to the Confederate flag followed.  The songs How Firm a Foundation, The Star Spangled Banner, Tennessee Waltz and Dixie were sung.

President Kinne gave a catechism quiz to members.  This is a quiz about the history of the Confederate States of America 1861-1865.

The minutes of the February meeting was read by Secretary Debbie Riggs and accepted.  The treasure's report was given by Peggy Morrison.

Lisa Pritchett, vice-president, reported on the new charter for the Children of the Confederacy sponsored by the chapter.  The new charter was presented at the district meeting and displayed at the meeting.  A special ceremony will be held on Saturday and will be part of the Confederate History month project. Anita Green, registrar for the chapter, is working on several new prospective member application papers.

Lunch was provided by Peggy Morrison.

Lisa Pritchett reported she has been working on a design for a new Jefferson Davis Chapter pin.  The design will have to be presented to the Tennessee Division for approval before this year’s deadline.  Different designs were discussed, and it was decided to have the Confederate Monument in Cleveland on the pin.  She will have the final design ready and bring it before the chapter for approval.

President Kinne urged everyone to contribute to help purchase lift chairs for veterans.

The March program consisted of the United Daughters of the Confederacy’s Code for the Correct Use of Our Confederate Flags and How to Display and Respect Our Flags. The program says the four Confederate flags (First National or Stars and Bars, Second National or Stainless Banner, Third National, Battle Flag) should be used whenever possible by the UDC and the Children of the Confederacy so they will be familiar to everyone and inspire devotion for their use on all days commemorating the heroes and events of the Confederacy.  The Confederate flag may be displayed every day, except in inclement weather, and it should be displayed especially on days of special Confederate commemoration and observance.  If a patriotic effect if desired, the flag may by displayed at night if properly illuminated.  It is customary to display the flag only from sunrise to sunset on buildings and on stationary flagstaffs in the open.  It should be hoisted briskly and lowered ceremoniously.  On Memorial Day, the flag should be at half staff until noon and at the peak of the staff from noon until sunset. When the Confederate flag is displayed, the flag of the United States of America must always be displayed with it; this includes use on platforms and in parades.

The meeting was adjourned. Anyone interested in the United Daughters of the Confederacy can visit www.udcjeffersondavischapter900.com or Facebook at www.facebook.com/udcjeffersondavischapter900
