THP Has Call To Action To End Traffic Fatalities

  • Friday, May 6, 2016

Colonel Tracy Trott of the Tennessee Highway Patrol recorded a “Call to Action Traffic Safety Video”, specific to Chattanooga requesting a commitment from every motorist to drive safely.  The message is direct:  The time is here, the time is now to stop highway related traffic deaths.  It is your time to do what you must to protect yourself and your loved ones.

“If you speed, don’t wear your seat belt, drive distracted, impaired or have reckless driver behaviors, then it is time to ask yourself, why?  We care about your safety; we ask that you care too," said Colonel Troll.  "These are questions the THP and law enforcement across Tennessee are asking each and every day.  Remember, in 2015 Tennessee had 961 fatalities on our roadways.  That is unacceptable.  Our goal is to have zero fatalities."

The THP is asking Tennesseans to make our roadways the safest in the nation.  Citizens witnessing dangerous behavior on the roadway can dial *THP (*847) for a trooper.  With the help of citizens, state troopers and other law enforcement officers can locate more dangerous drivers.  The THP will continue to place priority on detecting hazardous traffic violations and intoxicated drivers to keep citizens safe.

The THP is challenging citizens to commit to making safe and smart choices for #SAFERTNRDS (Safer TN roads).  Currently Tennessee is averaging more than two people killed per day in 2016 on its roadways.  As warmer weather draws closer that number could increase as more motorists are on the roads.

“We are challenging each person to commit to your own safety while you travel,” Colonel Trott said.  “We simply cannot detect or arrest every impaired and reckless driver, nor can we stop every speeder or person not wearing a seat belt.  It is up to you to make the safe choice every time you get behind the wheel.  What is the last thing you want to hold in your hand, your cell phone, or your family?"
