A memorial honoring the five service personnel who were killed in the Chattanooga terror attack 11 months ago will be erected near the scene of the attack.

The announcement was made at a press conference on Wednesday afternoon at the Tennessee Riverpark by the Naval Operational Support Center and Marine Corps Reserve Center.

Mayor Andy Berke said the city will announce a fund drive.

And Erlanger Health System is planning a Chattanooga Heroes Run/Walk with proceeds going to erect the memorial.

It will be held on July 16 - a year from the day of the attack.

The five-mile run or walk begins at the military center and winds through the Riverpark and the UTC campus before ending on Fifth Street south of the Challenger Center.

There will also be a one-mile kids run.

Officials said, "The even honors and remembers those who lost their lives on July 16, 2015, as well as responders who worked to protect the city of Chattanooga. All profits from this event will fund the construction of a permanent memorial at the Tennessee Riverpark for the servicemen who lost their lives in the July 16 attack."

Busing for participants/spectators will begin at 6 a.m.

The race starts at 8 a.m.

The Kids Run is at 10 a.m.
