Chattanooga Woman Sues Over Treatment Of Disabled Daughter At Memphis Airport Security Checkpoint

  • Friday, July 1, 2016

A Chattanooga woman has filed suit, alleging that her disabled daughter was roughed up by airport police and Transportation Security Administration personnel at the Memphis Airport.

Shirley Cohen said she was returning to Chattanooga after taking her 19-year-old daughter to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital for treatment.

The lawsuit filed in Memphis says the daughter was not able to cooperate with security personnel because a brain tumor removal and later radiation left her with limited ability to talk, walk, stand, see and hear.

Ms. Cohen said when her daughter "was unable to cooperate with a search" after an alarm went off she was put on the ground, causing heavy bleeding after her head struck the floor.

The suit is filed against the Memphis Airport, Airport Police and the TSA.
