Here are upcoming news and events from Outdoor Chattanooga:

Introduction to Mountain Biking: Skills Class Sept. 6, 9, 16 & 20

Mountain biking is so much more than just riding your bike in the woods! Outdoor Chattanooga's Introduction to Mountain Biking Program offers formal instruction to those that are new to the sport, or who want to get more out of riding. We invite you to join one of the Skills Classes being offered in September from 6-8 p.m. at Greenway Farms. You'll receive instruction and skills demonstration from our experienced mountain bike staff while practicing newly learned skills and riding techniques in a controlled setting.

Appropriate for ages 10-110. Cost is $10 per person per class. Registration and payment is required in advance. Call Outdoor Chattanooga at (423) 643-6888 to register and make payment. Loaner equipment is available if needed, but is limited. *Participants must already know how to confidently ride a bike for these classes. 

Downtown Kayak Tours September 9
Join Outdoor Chattanooga for a beginner friendly kayak tour of downtown Chattanooga on the Tennessee River at 8:30 a.m. on Thurs., Sept. 9. Our experienced guide staff will provide basic instruction, then lead a leisurely paced paddle from the north shore around Audubon Island/ Wildlife Sanctuary, the Bluff View Arts District, Ross' Landing and downtown's historic bridges. Appropriate for ages 8 and up. Paddlers ages 8-13 must paddle in tandem with an adult. Cost: $35 for adults / $25 for ages 8-13. Guides and equipment are provided. Family Funday: Archery and Canoeing at Greenway Sept. 11
Join Outdoor Chattanooga at the Greenway Farms for a Family Funday full of activity on Sunday, Sept. 11 between the hours of 4 to 7 p.m. Choose a leisure canoe trip on N. Chickamauga Creek, try archery at the new program Archery Range, bring a picnic, bring a bike or take a nature hike. For more information contact Outdoor Chattanooga at 423-643-6888.

Canoeing:
Outdoor Chattanooga will provide all the equipment for you to paddle the creek at your own pace. Children under 30 lbs. should bring their own Personal Flotation Device (life jacket).Meet at the N. Chick canoe launch behind the old Sniteman Cabin. Canoes available from 4 - 7 p.m. for $25 per canoe | first come, first served. (cash or check only)

Archery: 
Aim for adventure with our new archery program. All ages will enjoy testing their aim at the bulls-eye targets placed before an arrow resistant net. This program range is located next to the dog park. Outdoor Chattanooga staff will provide the instruction, guidance, and equipment for this activity suited for all ages. Available between 4 - 7 p.m. No fee.

Free entrance to Point Park in celebration of the National Park Service's 100th Birthday! 

2.4 Mile Open Water Swim August 27
Friends of Outdoor Chattanooga is hosting a 2.4 mile open water practice swim on the Tennessee River on August 27. This is not a race or a timed event, but rather a piloted practice swim for those interested in swimming in the Tennessee River. Swimmers will start and finish at Ross's Landing in downtown Chattanooga. Cost is $60 per swimmer and includes piloted swim, swag and lunch on the 3rd Deck Burger Bar on the Southern Belle. Proceeds benefit Friends of Outdoor Chattanooga. Kayak pilots/volunteers are also needed. For more information and to get registered click here. Registration closes August 25 at 12 p.m. 

Star Party at Cloudland Canyon State Park August 27
Come see the wonders of the night sky through telescopes on Sat., August 27 at Cloudland Canyon State Park. Mars and Saturn will be high in our southern sky near the bright red star Antares in the constellation Scorpius. Look at and identify the Constellations of Summer. Observe DSO's (Deep Sky Objects) like star clusters, nebulae and other galaxies like our own Milky Way. Telescopes will be set up at the tennis courts for the general public to gaze through from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m.  The park fee of $5 applies, the use of telescopes is free. Sponsored by the Staff and Friends of Cloudland Canyon State Park and conducted by the Barnard Astronomical Society.
