Alex McVeagh
The Chattanooga Bar Association has nominated Alex McVeagh, attorney for Chambliss, Bahner & Stophel, P.C., as the newest member of the Legal Aid of East Tennessee board of directors. Mr. McVeagh, one of four Chattanooga attorney board members, has experience with LAET from past work as chair of LAET's Annual Campaign for Justice committee and through various volunteer roles in the Chattanooga community.
Aside from providing pro bono assistance to LAET through his practice at Chambliss, Mr. McVeagh has worked with LAET to coordinate numerous pro bono clinics in East Tennessee through his position in the Tennessee Bar Association as Hamilton County Representative for the Young Lawyers Division.
In his day-to-day work, Mr. McVeagh is a civil litigator who also counsels Chambliss clients on municipal, governmental, and intellectual property matters. Before joining the firm, he worked with the Tennessee District Public Defenders Conference and the Senate Judiciary Committee in the state Legislature.

The LAET board of directors is comprised of attorneys from the Chattanooga, Knoxville, and Tri-Cities areas that make up LAET’s 26-county footprint in East Tennessee, as well as client-eligible representatives appointed by community agencies. Over the last 50 years, LAET has provided legal assistance to thousands of low-income, elderly, abused, and otherwise vulnerable East Tennesseans who needed counsel in a variety of areas, including family law, elder law, housing law, estate planning, consumer protection, adoptive services, and governmental benefits. The organization has offices in Chattanooga, Cleveland, Knoxville, Maryville, Johnson City and Morristown. LAET also provides services through a health law partnership at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga and at Family Justice Centers in Chattanooga, Knoxville, and Johnson City.
