Foster, Van Ray Sr. (Dalton)

  • Monday, January 23, 2017

Van Roy Foster, Sr., 80, of the Maple Grove Community in Dalton, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Hamilton Medical Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Lee A. and Lina Foster; brother, Jackie G. Foster; sister, Agnes Robinson; and grandson, Farrell Van Foster.

Mr. Foster was a lifetime member and former deacon of Maple Grove Baptist Church. He was a kind and gentle man. He loved his family. He had three great children and was married to his wife Colleen for 60 years. He retired from the United States Air Force after serving 22 years where he was promoted to the most difficult rank that most career Air Force members ever achieved. He traveled all over the United States and saw a great many things in this world, but what he loved most were the simple things, spending time with his family, especially his grandbabies, working out in the yard and he loved playing poker. He always had a smile on his face and something nice to say about everyone.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Colleen C. Foster of the residence; daughter, Cindy Dempsey of Dalton; sons and daughters-in-law, Van Roy Jr. and Janie Foster, J. T. and Sharon Foster; special son, Landon Brooks, all of Dalton; granddaughters, Amber Dempsey, Jacklyn Williams, Amber Grindle and Patricia Laschower; grandsons, J.R. and Amanda Foster, Nathan Foster and Josh Long; great-grandchildren, Harley, I.V., Kristen, Kasyn and Dradyn;  and nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 24, at 2 p.m. at Maple Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Landon Brooks, Rev. Larry Morgan and Rev. Billy Joe Cochran officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Monday, January 23 from 5-9 p.m. at the Pleasant Grove Chapel of Julian Peeples Funeral Home, who has charge of the arrangements.
