Wing Mun Loo
Wing Mun Loo

Wing Mun Loo went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at the age of 75 in the comfort of his home in Cleveland, TN on September 30, 2017.

Born on September 8, 1942, in Augusta, Georgia, Wing arrived as the 14th child and the 7th son of the late Sing Yet Loo Sr. and Tai Do Shee Loo. The family would ultimately grow to have a total of 19 children. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Despite limited resources shared with such a large family, he exceled with a curious drive and passion to achieve many of the rarer things in life.

Wing graduated with honors from the Academy of Richmond County, Augusta, Ga., in 1960. He achieved the rank of Captain in the Army ROTC and led its elite drill team, giving exhibitions at many halftimes of both football and basketball games. Then he attended the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering. This degree unlocked opportunities that literally opened up the world. Beginning with a job at the Pennwalt Chemical Co. in Calvert City, Kentucky, he found the love of his life, Yvonne Rickman, a marriage lasting 48 years.

He started a family with two kids named Mikhael (Dena) and Kyna Michelle (Tyler) who gave him 8 grandchildren: Mikayla, Dakota, Zion, Jordan, Roman, Moriah, Sophia, and Kori. Wing’s next move occurred when he found work near Cleveland, TN working at the Olin Corp. in Charleston. In 1980, Wing and Yvonne made the decision to temporarily leave their home in Cleveland and work for Aramco in Ras Tanura, Saudi Arabia. After being transferred back to the US, Wing worked in Houston and Los Angeles for the same company until he finally retired back to his original house and home in Cleveland, TN. From here, Wing took on another two year post retirement job to work at the Maraven Refinery Co. in Punto Fijo, Venezuela.

In all the places that Wing has lived, he always had a heart for missions. Early on, in Cleveland, he joined Westwood Baptist Church where he went on a couple of missions trips including a 10 day trip to a Baptist church in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. In Saudi Arabia, Wing was the Director of Missions at the RT Fellowship Church where he took a mission trip to various ministries the congregation supported in southern India. While in Los Angeles, Wing joined the Golden West Baptist Church where he took on various lead positions to help prevent the church from closing. On returning to Cleveland, Wing joined First Baptist Church where he went on a 14 day construction mission trip to New York City in coordination with the Baptist Association. The trip was requested by the International Mission Board. Because of Wing’s passion about passing on the gospel to the next generation, at the age of 70 he wrote a nine page letter about true salvation to his children and grandchildren. The letter was his legacy to them.

Other hobbies Wing enjoyed were fishing, golf, travel, and the remodeling of homes.

Family members are invited to the Companion Funeral Home for a private viewing from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 6. All are invited to a visitation at First Baptist Church at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7.

The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Reverend Jim Gibson officiating and Tom Wicks leading worship. Afterward, please join us for a graveside service and a releasing of white doves at Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering via First Baptist Church in Cleveland.
