The 2017 volleyball season came to a close for the Georgia Northwestern Lady Bobcats Friday night with a 25-17, 25-13, 25-12 loss on the road at Toccoa Falls College.

Anna Schorle had a team-high six kills in the finale to go with two digs, an ace and a block. Tori Hall had a pair of kills and four digs. Jamese Miller finished with three kills, a block and a dig, while Kayleigh Goff recorded nine digs, two kills, an ace and an assist,

Also contributing for the Lady Bobcats were Morgen Simmons (11 digs), Jesse Owens (10 digs, 1 ace), Shanna Burk (9 digs, 5 assists, 1 ace), Kaylin Graham (4 digs) and Mia Clark (4 assists, 1 block, 1 dig).

Georgia Northwestern ended their year with a 2-17 overall record.

"I'm sad the season has come to an end," first-year head coach Amber Weaver said. "We all have come along way since our first open gym back in June and I am very excited to see what next year holds for us. These players have proven to be eager to work and committed to this team, and with a year of experience for them, as well as me, I am excited to see what we can do next season.

"Not only have they shown their commitment on the volleyball court, but they are also committed and willing do the other things expected of them to be a part of this team, such as serving within the community at least once a month on top of practice and games. I could not be happier with the foundation and expectations these girls have help me lay for the new recruits coming in next season."

Weaver said she has already begun recruiting for next season, both in the Chattanooga and northwest Georgia areas, and said her goal for recruiting is to have 12-15 players next season who are "coachable and willing to work hard."

"At the beginning of this, we identified as a team what a win was going to be for us, and not just what the scoreboard said," Weaver explained. "With those things in mind, I think the team would agree with me we had a winning season. They continued to grow and get better, kept good coachable attitudes, were on time and kept their grades up.

"As long as we are continually getting better, and representing Georgia Northwestern well, I'm happy with our season, and I know the scoreboard wins will come."
