Transit Planner Jarrett Walker To Deliver Free Public Lecture Thursday

Jarrett Walker will deliver a free public lecture, "Transit Truths," as the first installment of the Robert C. Taylor Lecture Series hosted by the Chattanooga Design Studio this Thursday from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Bessie Smith Cultural Center Performance Hall , 200 E. MLK Blvd.  Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the program begins at 6 p.m. 
 
Blythe Bailey, administrator for the Chattanooga Department of Transportation will make opening remarks at 6 p.m., followed by Mr. Walker.  Time will be reserved for a Q&A session beginning around 6:45 p.m.       

The event is hosted by the Chattanooga Design Studio in partnership with the Chattanooga Area Regional Transportation Authority and Chattanooga Department of Transportation.

CDOT Announces Extended Road Closure On W 3rd Street

The closure on W 3rd Street between Market Street and Broad Street has been extended until Aug.15 due to weather delays. W 3rd will be closed daily between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. until Aug 15 for storm drain pipe installations. Authorities Say Hixson Man Shot And Killed His 15-Year-Old Son On Saturday Night; Also Killed Family Dog

Authorities said a Hixson man shot and killed his 15-year-old son on Saturday night. A report says Mike McElrath, 46, a former Hamilton County jailer, who was found naked at a neighbor's house, also killed the family dog. County deputies responded at 10:24 p.m. to 1846 Cotter Road. Gary Douglas, 25, Shot Early Sunday Morning; Dewayne Stanley, 24, Is Arrested

Gary Douglas, 25, was shot early Sunday morning, and Dewayne Stanley, 24, was arrested.   The Chattanooga Police Department responded at approximately  3 a.m.   to a person shot on the 4700 block of Murray Lake Lane.
