Weekly Road Construction Report

Here is the weekly road construction report for Hamilton County: 

I-24 East bridge repair over Chestnut Street at mile marker 178.6 near the U.S. 27 interchange and safety improvements on the bridges over the CSX Railroad and over U.S. 27:  Work on this project is nearing completion.  

On Thursday night, from 8 p.m.-6 a.m. Friday, a temporary left lane closure will be in place for I-24 West from Williams Street to approximately MM 178.2 for removing the temporary attenuator and barrier rail from the left shoulder.

On Saturday night, from 8 p.m.-9 a.m. Sunday, temporary lane closures will be in place for I 24 East from MM 176 to Williams Street for removing temporary striping, restriping, reworking signs, removing temporary barrier rail and an attenuator.   

On Saturday night, from 8 p.m.-6 a.m.Sunday, Exit 178 from I-24 East will be closed.  Exit 178 traffic will be detoured from 1-24 East to the 4th Avenue exit and then back onto I 24 West.  Exit 178 will be reopened to traffic at 6 a.m. on Sunday. 

During the course of the Saturday night, traffic shifts will be used to move traffic around so the work can be completed.  Additionally, a temporary double left lane closure will be in place for I-24 West from approximately MM 180 to MM 179.4 for installing I-24 preformed shields.   

Beginning on Saturday night at 10 p.m.-9 a.m. Sunday, the U.S. 27 South exit ramp to I-24 East will be closed completely for removing temporary striping, restriping, reworking signs, and removing temporary barrier rail. Traffic wishing to continue to I-24 East from U.S. 27 South will be detoured onto I-24 West and travel to Exit 175 (Browns Ferry Rd.), where they can get back onto I-24 East.

During this report period, the contractor also may have intermittent lane restrictions from 7 p.m.-6a .m. THP will assist with traffic control on the project as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is November.  [Dement Construction Co., LLC/Pruett/CNR031] 

U.S. 27 (I-124) widening from I-24/U.S. 27 interchange to north of the Olgiati Bridge over the Tennessee River, including widening the Olgiati Bridge:  Work on this project continues.  The speed limit on U.S. 27 in the construction zone is 45 MPH.  Weather permitting, the contractor may implement temporary lane/shoulder closures on weeknights between the hours of 7 p.m.-6 a.m.  On Friday night, between 7 p.m.-6 a.m., a temporary left lane closure will be in place for southbound U.S. 27 from Manufacturers Road to I-24 for grading in the area of the MLK Blvd. ramp.  During this closure the off-ramp from southbound U.S. 27 to eastbound MLK Blvd. will be closed.  On Tuesday night and Wednesday night, between 7 p.m.-6 a.m., a temporary left lane closure will be in place for northbound U.S. 27 from I-24 to north of 12th Street for setting the Main Street bridge beams.  During this work, Main Street will also be temporarily closed from Reggie White Blvd. / Carter Street to the southbound U.S. 27 on-ramp.  Traffic will be detoured using Reggie White Blvd. and West 20th Street/Riverfront Parkway.  At least one lane will remain open in each direction on U.S. 27.  THP will assist with traffic control on the project as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is July 2019.  [Dement Construction Co., LLC/JM/CNP230] 

SR-320 (East Brainerd Road) grading, drainage, installation of signals, construction of seven retaining walls and paving from east of Graysville Road to east of Bel-Air Road:  Work on this project continues.  During this report period, the contractor may have intermittent lane closures between 9 a.m.-2 p.m.  This work may affect either direction of East Brainerd Road or side streets from Graysville Road to Bel-Air Road.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  Estimated project completion date is June 2018. SR-153/SR-319 (Hixson Pike) bridge repair on Hixson Pike over SR-153:  Work on this project continues.  The contractor will be working on the inside lanes of the bridge.  The outside lanes in both directions are open to traffic.  This lane closure will be in place until late November.  During this report period the contractor may have intermittent lane closures on SR-153 from 9 p.m.-6 a.m. to do work under the bridge.  If there are any temporary closures needed on SR-153 as part of this project, they will take place at nighttime on Sundays through Thursdays between 9 p.m.-6 a.m. and on weekdays on SR-153 South between 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and on SR-153 North between 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Flaggers will assist with traffic control as necessary during these temporary closures.  Estimated project completion date is May 2018. U.S. 11 (SR-2/Brainerd Road) resurfacing from McCallie Tunnel (LM 11.83) to east of Moore Road (LM 13.85):  Work on this project continues.  During the project, the contractor will have intermittent lane closures between 9 p.m.-6 a.m. Sunday night thru Thursday night. The contractor will be milling, paving, and installing pavement markings. At least one travel lane will remain open to traffic at all times. This work may affect either direction of Brainerd Road or side streets from Moore Road to the McCallie Tunnel.  Motorists should be alert for construction personnel and equipment. THP will assist with traffic control as needed. Estimated project completion date is November. [Talley Construction/Pruett/CNR218] 

The tunnel cleaning of the McCallie Tunnel on U.S. 11 (US 64, SR-2), the Stringers Ridge Tunnel on U.S. 127 (SR-8), and the Bachman Tubes on U.S. 41 (U.S. 76, SR-8):  The nighttime cleaning operation of McCallie Tunnels, Stringers Ridge Tunnel, and Bachman Tubes occurs between 8 p.m.-6 a.m.  Tunnels will be closed during cleaning, and detours will be marked accordingly as each tunnel is cleaned.  Contract completion date is June 2018.  [ETI Environmental, Inc./Micka/CNR223]
