A woman was charged with DUI on Saturday night after striking a pedestrian at the Mainx24 festival on the Southside.

Martha Turner, 21, of Forest Avenue, was also charged with failure to yield.

Police said she was driving a Toyota 4Runner about 10:23 p.m. behind a large SUV going west on Main Street.

Police said after the SUV turned right on Rossville Avenue, the driver of the 4Runner did not realize that a group of pedestrians was crossing Main Street at a cross walk.

The driver hit her brakes, but struck pedestrian Hannah Hopkins, who suffered minor injuries.

An officer said Ms. Turner was unsteady on her feet and her speech was slurred. He said there was a strong odor of an intoxicant coming from her person and her breath. She did not perform well on field sobriety tests.

Ms. Turner said she had not had anything to drink. She said she had taken the medication Klonopin an hour before.

She took a breath test and the reading was .06, which is below the drunk level.

The officer said he felt she was intoxicated based on the medication.

A blood test was also given.
