Cycle Cleveland-Walk Cleveland Learning And Organizing Event Is Feb. 24

  • Wednesday, February 15, 2017

The city of Cleveland is hosting a working luncheon about pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure on Friday, Feb. 24, from 12-3 p.m. at the Cleveland Public Library, 795 Church St. NE.

“We want additional bike lanes or better facilities for cycling” and “We want more sidewalks and greater walkability” are two comments that local officials hear a lot. Translating these desires into the new sidewalks, bike facilities, etc. that are wanted takes organizing, planning, and advocacy by citizens who want to work with local officials to achieve these things.

Participants in the Cycle Cleveland-Walk Cleveland event will learn about initial steps that have occurred locally already and will hear firsthand accounts of cycling and walkability planning and advocacy from Nashville, Knoxville, and Chattanooga.  Participants will learn about statewide wide efforts from BikeWalkTN and the Walkability Learning Collaborative.

With this knowledge and encouragement, participants will enter a work session to Organize Cycle Cleveland-Walk Cleveland. During the guided work session participants will take the first steps to
launching an independent citizen-led bicycle and pedestrian planning and advocacy organization.

BikeWalkTN will provide the work session with information about resources that would be available to the new organization should it become a chapter affiliate of BikeWalkTN.

To RSVP for the working lunch, or for those unable to attend but want more information, contact Cleveland MPO Coordinator, Greg Thomas, via e-mail at gthomas@clevelandtn.gov or call 593-5665.
