Derick Chapman
Derick Lamar “D.C.” Chapman, 40, of Chattanooga, passed away peacefully at Erlanger Medical Center on Thursday, February 2, 2017.
He was born March 17, 1976, in Chattanooga to Anita A. Chapman and Paul Copeland, Sr.
Derick was preceded in death by his grandparents, Helen Bowerman Coleman and Willie George Chapman.
Derick was a member of Cosmopolitan Community Church and grew up in the Cleveland Church of God, Sanctified. He graduated from Howard High School in 1994. He majored in business at Chattanooga State Community College.
Derick was employed by Flowers Direct and Avis Budget Car Rental. He formerly served as Fatherhood Initiative Program Director for Boys Clubs of Chattanooga.
Derick was active in his community and founded the Highland Park Boys Club Reunion Crank Classic Basketball Game in memory of Cornelius “Crank” Halfacre, his childhood friend and a young father who died young of natural causes.
Survivors include his parents; his daughter, Shudericka Chapman and her mother, Felicia Jones, of Chattanooga; sister, Michele (Stacy) McClure of Lithonia, GA and brother, Paul (Shanda) Copeland, Jr., of Riverview, FL; aunt and uncle, Andrea Joyce Coleman and Quenston Coleman; special cousin, Nicole Coleman; numerous cousins, relatives, extended family members and a host of special friends.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11, in the funeral home chapel. Interment – Highland Cemetery.
The body will lie in state after noon on Friday, Feb. 10, and the family will receive friends from 7–8 p.m. at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
