The Bradley County Senior Citizen Visitation Unit will host two Senior Citizen/Alzheimer registration events this week. A family member, friend, or neighbor can fill out an application for someone in need, but the senior citizen has to want to participate and welcome the visits. It is important the Sheriff’s Office has senior citizens’ current information for those who have been diagnosed with Alzheimer's, in the event they are reported missing.
The first registration will convene this Wednesday, at the Senior Center at 230 Urbane Road from 9–11 a.m. Later in the week, another registration will be held at Bradley Square Mall’s (Santa –Fe entrance) between the hours of 10 a.m.–12 p.m. on Friday, March 10.
The Bradley County Sheriff’s Office Senior Citizen / Alzheimer Visitation program has been active for the past three years under Sheriff Eric Watson. Sheriff Watson said, “Over 2,732 senior citizen visitations were performed last year by those who volunteer in our Senior Citizen Visitation Unit. Our agency is committed to the safety and welfare of the community’s senior citizens, and we want to assist family members with their loved ones. Additionally, we recognize that many senior citizens live alone and have little to no assistance to monitor their special needs. The purpose of this program is to ensure the safety and welfare of the community’s senior citizens. Beyond the safety aspect, our agency’s visits are the only regular interaction senior citizens may have beyond their residence.”
All applications received will be entered into a database, and scheduled visits will be set up by Captain Ralph Creel who oversees this unit.
