2 Sobriety Roadside Checkpoints Yield 6 Arrests

Two Sobriety Roadside Checkpoints were conducted by the Public Safety Unit that involved multiple agencies. Crossville Police Department, Englewood Police Department, Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, 10th Judicial District Drug & Violent Crime Task Force, and Tennessee Highway Patrol partnered with the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office during the checkpoints held in the months of March and April. 

The first checkpoint was held on Friday, March 10, between 8-10 p.m. at Highway 11 (Hiwassee Street) at Water Street which recorded the following activity:
418 Vehicles Passed through the Checkpoint
20 Citations Issued that Incorporates 32 Violations
7 Child Seat Violations
1 Arrest
11 Child Car-Seats Inspected
8 Child Car-Seats Replaced 

The second checkpoint was held on Friday, April 7, between 8-10 p.m. at the Bradley County and Hamilton County line on Highway 60 (Georgetown Road) which recorded the following activity:
612 Vehicles Passed through the Checkpoint
18 Citations Issued that Incorporates 29 Violations
1 Child Car-Seat Citation
1 Seatbelt Citation
5 Arrests
4 Driving Under the Influence
1 Driving on Revoked for Driving Under the Influence
26 Child Car-Seats Inspected
13 Child Car-Seats Replaced 

Sheriff Eric Watson said, “Our agency will continue to coordinate checkpoints at different areas within Bradley County to ensure everybody’s safety while traveling on our community’s roadways. There will be no-tolerance for those who decide to drive while intoxicated, and deputies will hold those drivers responsible who make the decision to endanger others.  

"I’m extremely grateful to every law-enforcement department that assisted our agency with both Sobriety Roadside Checkpoints, which includes Hamilton County Sheriff Office’s Safe Journey Program that replaced 21 Child Car-Seats to ensure the safety of those children while traveling in a vehicle.” 

Both checkpoints were funded through a Tennessee Highway Safety Office traffic-safety grant awarded to the Bradley County Sheriff Office.
