A city board on Wednesday approved extending Passenger Street to the rear of the Chattanooga Choo Choo where a new $45 million, four-story apartment complex will be built by a Birmingham, Ala., developer.

The action was taken by the Health, Education and Housing Facility Board.

Passenger Street goes between the Choo Choo and the Terminal Brewhouse.

The apartment project will be at the site of the current Track 29 music venue. It will move to the former Centennial Theater.

The board conveyed to the Choo Choo a portion of property it conveyed to the city in 2015.

Development of the new section of road will be paid for by the apartment developer, LIV Development.

The new section of road will be 120 feet long and 10-12 feet wide.
