Ed Johnson Project Has Kickoff Meeting Tuesday

  • Thursday, May 4, 2017

The Ed Johnson Project will host a meet and greet in order to provide community updates and detail how individuals, organizations and members of the general public may get involved on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The event will be held at the DoubleTree Hotel, Address: 407 Chestnut St.

The Ed Johnson Project is a Chattanooga project that has the potential to change and unite the community, said officials.  The community is invited to be a part of creating the project as it kicks off its public awareness and fundraising campaign, which will include documentary viewings and information about the Ed Johnson story and project. Anyone who is interested in helping to host a fundraising event or volunteering in other ways is invited. Attendees will be provided all the information they need to get involved.

At its core, the project is built on remembering the Ed Johnson story by creating a memorial which acknowledges the lynching of Ed Johnson, honors the work of his attorneys, and recognizes the resulting U.S. Supreme Court case; reaching out in reconciliation to the entire community; and uniting to work towards a better future. In addition to creating a public space, the project is helping to fund a documentary, funding a scholarship and creating a website with all known information about the story.
