Jones, Mattie Lou Towns (Summerville)

Mattie Lou Towns Jones, 96, of Summerville, Georgia, passed away on July 16, at her home after a long and blessed life.

Mrs. Jones was born March 23, 1921, in Armuchee, Ga., daughter of John William and Lilly Mae Towns.

She was a 1938 graduate of Gore High School and began her work career at McLellan Stores in Rome, Ga. The next year she moved to Summerville and accepted employment as a legal secretary.

While working as a legal secretary she met John Paul Jones. They were married in June,1945. In 1954 Mrs. Jones and her husband opened the John Paul Jones Company in Summerville enjoying 40 years of success. She was a founding member of the Summerville B&PW organization being nominated for Business Women of the year in 1982. She enjoyed and expressed a lifelong love of music and was a founding member of the Summerville Music Study club, serving as secretary.

Mrs. Jones was a faithful member of Summerville Presbyterian Church and Beersheba Presbyterian Church. She played piano for Sunday School, sang alto in the church choir, assisted with youth choirs, and served as church music librarian.

Mattie Lou Jones was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, John Paul Jones and sons John Michael Jones and Jimmy Paul Jones.
 
Surviving is her son and daughter-in-law Stephen and Carolyn Jones, Canton, GA,  grandchildren Paul Haley Jones, Missoula, MT and Katie Jones Byrd (Joshua), and great-grandchildren Tripp Byrd and Haley Byrd all of Carrollton, GA.  A number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Services for Mattie Lou Jones will be on Tuesday, July 18, at 2 p.m. at  Beersheba Presbyterian Church, 9945 Ga. Hwy. 337, Summerville, Ga. 30747, with Reverend Jack Westlund officiating,
Visitation will be at the church an hour before the service.

Pallbearers are Paul Jones, Josh Byrd, Alan Sosebee, Daryl Sosebee, Gene McGinnis and Bob Agnew

Interment is in the Summerville Cemetery.

Earle Rainwater Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
