Artillery Programs Offered At The Chickamauga Battlefield On July 29

  • Wednesday, July 19, 2017

On Saturday, July 29, Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will present artillery programs near the King Monument, on Battleline Road, in Chickamauga Battlefield. Programs will begin at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. and will last approximately 30 minutes. Visitors should pick up a map to the program location inside the visitor center or to drive to Tour Stop 2 and follow the event signs for parking.

On Sept.

20, 1863, Confederates under the command of General Leonidas Polk attacked the Union position along Battleline Road. Using the elevated ridge, and supported by artillery, Union forces repulsed the attacking Confederates as they advanced through the open glades. These park conducted programs will highlight the role of cannon in repulsing the Confederate attack.

For more information about programs at Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, contact the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center at 706 866-9241, the Lookout Mountain Battlefield Visitor Center at 423 821-7786, or visit the park website at www.nps.gov/chch.
